First I should start by saying that I am an elderlaw attorney, licensedn in the state of Maryland, DC and Virginia. I happen to know my way around the senior communities in the area. I wish I felt comfortable putting my contact information here, but I think a pure, honest, totally negative review will have to suffice.
Focusing on Patuxent, THIS PLACE IS OFFENSIVE. I would never, and I repeat, NEVER, place someone I even slightly cared about, especially one of my valuable clients in any of the Sava SeniorCare facilities in the Maryland area. When I have visited, I found that it is dirty and smells; there is never ANY parking; the food looks and smells disgusting; the staff is rude, not only to patients but to professionals such as myself looking to give them business; the staff fight with one another in front of patients; the staff have their own agendas - so when a patient needs something, there seemed to be NO urgency to assist; the social workers at Patuxent are SO lazy that getting anything done for a patient is next to impossible until the social worker themselves are ready.
I met with Mark Asch at Patuxent - he was probably the only reason I would have considered this facility at all. Talk about helpful, thoughtful and genuine!! His customer service was fabulous. I called there earlier this week and found that he was no longer employed there! I inquired as to where he had gone to be told that he was not working somewhere else yet, but he was not going to be working for them any longer.
I also met with Kelly Williams at Arcola, another facility I considered for a particular client. I believe she told me that she had been at Arcola for 12-13 years. She was warm, bent over backward to give me a full tour - all the residents knew her by sight, she hugged many of them and asked them specific questions about their well-being. About a week or two ago, when my client's hospital discharge date was determined, I called one more time to speak with Kelly. Low and behold, she no longers works at Arcola. Again, when asked where she had gone, they said they could not give out that information, but she was no longer employed with Sava.
Don't get me started on Bethesda Health and Rehab, another Sava care center. I didn't even get calls returned from there. Not a good business move.
Overall, my comment should focus not on the individual centers, but on SAVA. It seems they lack upper level management to be able to make appropriate decisions
about who qualified and appropriate directors for their centers are. When it comes to senior services, it is very hard to find good, caring administrators. SAVA seems to do their very best to weed out to upper echelon of these folks, like Mark and Kelly, and bring in those crawling out of the mud. Good luck with that.
To any family or other professional serving seniors in Maryland, stay away, FAR, FAR AWAY from SAVA SeniorCare. They just do NOT have their act together.
