Staffing issues. =Ratio of patients to technicians!!!
I would never send my loved one to Arcola Rehab Center. What a horrible experience Would not recommend to anyone!
This place is the worse place I have ever visited. I had someone there who I call a second Mom, she almost died in this place. She kept telling them that her blood pressure was low, they kept telling her they would take care of it, well by the time they got her to the hospital her blood pressure was SO LOW they had to keep her in ICU for about a week! The food looked and smelt terrible!!!!!! We asked if she could get one of those mattresses that inflates to keep the blood circulating through her legs, they told us that only patients with bed sores can get these types of mattresses, I told them she does have one, and they never gave her a mattress to help her. I feel that this place is a death trap waiting to happen, this place should be investigated on POOR Quality Service overall!!!!!! Do these places get inspected on a yearly basis? If not a yearly inspection should be made MANDATORY, this is one place I would never take my love ones to and definitely would not RECOMMEND!!!!!! If you love your family member please DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE!!!!!! If I ever need a place for myself this will never be a choice on my list!
This place is the worst place to put ANY family member. The nursing staff is always short on help and the management is never around when needed. The food that the patients receive is not good at all and its always cold when it's time to eat. The worst ever!!!
My dad had a urine infection in his bottle(bad color) and the nurse didn't notice it. But I as a caregiver did, I was very upset with the nursing staff.
I was a patient in Cherrylane nursing rehab in November of 2005 until Febuary 2006. I was a ped. struck. The staff there was very supportive and friendly.and patient with me.It also felt like I have been knowing the staff for a long time.I had two pins. One on each side of my pelvis.I can tell that took the staff for a loot. But theywere very cautious working around the pins.I am glad I had such a good group to work with me.I talk about Cherry lane rehab all the time.So keep up the good work,I am so proud of you all,and thanks alot for all the help you gave me.May God bless you all.
Dealing with the administrative/management staff is a NIGHTMARE! They are angry & vendictive. Example: When I meet with them and they told me I had to take my brother home or move him to another facility, I tried to explain to them my circumstances they pretty much shut me down. Meet with them on 11/15 and he was to be gone by 11/23. It took days to find out the name of the doctor who has been treating him, left message asking him to call me, still haven't heard from him. No one has called me back with the name of phychiatrist who is seeing him. I called the Rehabilitation Program Manager & told her not to send someone to my home to review it for safety, she took it upon herself to march right down to my brother's room to tell him he was being discharged. My brother has dementia & this through him into a tail spin, now even though they are a nursing home & rehab they want me to do something about his behavior. These are the people you have to deal with when you have a question not the people who are taking care of him. The Business Office Director had a problem with submitting the Medicaid application said she had 30 days to do so and if I didn't like the way she did it do it myself. Not one person has returned the call's from my attorney. My brother has medical insurance he doesn't have $10,000. a month to spend on his care. I am 71 years old with failing health I can't take care of my brother nor am I in financial position to do so. When asking for my brother's medical records the complaint was "do I realize how long she would have to stand at the copier to accomplish
this" I just wanted to find a geriatric doctor for my brother. Apparently the Interim Administrator feels no need to address any complaints.
Very unorganized, didn't show any care, very uncomfortable not clean. They didnt feed my mom she missed out on certain meals. They did not have the necessary equipment for my mom in order to do everyday things like a walker or wheelchair. This was ridiculous my mom left because we could not take this anymore.
This is the worst facility and inhumane staff members I have every come across. My brother, a homeless man, was released by Laurel Regional Hospital to their facility to provide the care necessary from having two strokes and a blood sugar level of 950.
To my surprise and his wife, Patuxent River took my brother from the facility without written authorization, proper release papers or medication and dumped him on the Streets of Baltimore, Maryland.
They deserve a rating of ZERO!!!! Inhumane, uncaring idiots!!!!!!!!!!!
I recently had my dad at this facility. I was very impressed by the environment but even more impressed with the care and compassion shown by the staff. We immediately felt welcomed and at home. My dad had excellent care. He is now home and doing great thanks to the wonderful therapy and nursing staff at Patuxent River.
The Rehab staff was very professional. They worked with my mother extensively and now my mother is back home doing well.
I wish I could give this place a negative 5 stars. This place is horrible! I visited on business a couple weeks ago, and needless to say, the place was a mess. It was very unorganized and crowded, the place stink and the maintenance is way overdue. Place needs to be closed down for renovation. The staff is all over the place, not able to tend to the needs of the residents in adequate time. This place is long overdue for an inspection. I would never refer anyone to this place! Ever!
Nice place. The nurses need training in customer service.
New administrator and some changes and improvements are being made but,the medical staff are still lazy and lackadaiscal. Always have to put fire underneath them to do the job consistently and correct. Sick of it and still they seniors are not being change as often and as regular as they should be. Nursing staff do not use common sense but think they know everything. I'm looking elsewhere. There's got to be a better place for my parent.
My mother stayed here for rehab for approx 2 weeks after having a heart attack. This is the WORST facility I have ever seen. The facility room AC was not functioning had to buy my mother a fan. Numerous FLYS, trash from changing of bandage were noticeable. Staff barely cleaned rooms/bathroom just a quick sweep of the broom was done to clean rooms. My mom had to share with a patient in another room next to her who would walk by her room nightly saying obscene gestures as he walked past her room daily she informed staff numerous times and nothing was done. Staff and nurses are aware of this patients hanging in the hallways in front of their rooms as thought it’s a lounge area. Constant and strong odor of urine can be smelled on patients. The nurse’s desk is a hangout for staff and seldom left to check on patients some who which have slight mental problems. Wrong medicines and diet (food) being that my mom is a diabetic. I made several complaints to the social worker at the center only to get messages of her voice mail several days in a row. What was my last straw with the center when my mother told me she slept in her waste one night because staff never came by in the middle of night to change her? When I called the head of the facility only then did I receive a callback from my social worker and she began to apologize for their lack of attention and care for my mother. This is center needs to be monitored by the State of Maryland for care better and in my opinion should be closed. The outside grounds are nicely kept and exterior of building looks nice but care or lack of care is ramped in the center. I do hope the some people in authority would come and do a surprise visit of the upper floors were not elderly but young and middle age live and rehab is given or to simply put it check this facility out from the top down. It was truly sad to see that I had to have my mother moved out of the PG County to get quality care that have dialysis stations on site. If any state or county representatives read this please visit this center and get your own option for residents, patience’s and families of former residents/rehab patients. This by far is the worst facility I have ever seen and should be taken over by the government or fine the ownerships of this facility. Jerry Johnson
My mom became sepsis while staying here at this facility.
The facility should set a hight standard for cleanliness, not just in the common areas and treat the patience with dignity. The Director and Assistant director should talk to the caregivers and respond to their complaints, this will make the facility run better and give feedback to all Concern Letters that they never respond too. The patiences get accustom to the passionate employees but the department heads don't treat them well and they end up leaving the facility and find other jobs.
Staff is very rude. Not enough staff to handle patients. Leave patients lying in bed all day and they do not check on them. Patients fall and they do not file reports. Please do not send your love one there. If you do then I know you do not care about them. I would not send my worst enemy to this place.
My father was a patient there in late 2010. Physio was hit or miss, and we had some issues with nurses aides. Fast forward to May and June of this year when my 93 year old mother was there following a heart attack and subsequent aeortic valve replacement. What a difference!!! FABULOUS nursing care, and Physiotherapy was terrific. My mother is back at home and doing well due to the wonderful care and rehabilitation provided at this facility. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff. It is evident that this is not just a "job" for them, but a vocation/calling. By the way, my mother was not a model patient (ie: difficult), but these wonderful people were able to handle difficult situations!
My dad was just there and they just ignored him & when I called to address his concerns they called him a liar. He was having stomach pains & they ignored him so we called 911 and the hospital said he was lucky he got there when he did…. CRESENT CITIES NEEDS TO BE CLOSED DOWN!!!!!
My experience with this nursing home was very positive. I toured several homes before choosing Patuxent River and none of the others compared. The cleanliness of the facility and the friendly staff were what really made me choose Patuxent River. While we were only there for a short time, my dad successfully recovered and is home now. We definitely recommend this place. We had a great experience.
I wouldn't send anyone here. The care is horrible.
The administrator, business office, and admissions office staff are very unprofessional, uncooperative, and at times hostile towards the family of the resident. The doctors and nurses do not communicate the progress, changes, or other valuable information to family on a regular basis. The overall nursing care is fair. I do not reccomend this facility.
First I should start by saying that I am an elderlaw attorney, licensedn in the state of Maryland, DC and Virginia. I happen to know my way around the senior communities in the area. I wish I felt comfortable putting my contact information here, but I think a pure, honest, totally negative review will have to suffice.
Focusing on Patuxent, THIS PLACE IS OFFENSIVE. I would never, and I repeat, NEVER, place someone I even slightly cared about, especially one of my valuable clients in any of the Sava SeniorCare facilities in the Maryland area. When I have visited, I found that it is dirty and smells; there is never ANY parking; the food looks and smells disgusting; the staff is rude, not only to patients but to professionals such as myself looking to give them business; the staff fight with one another in front of patients; the staff have their own agendas - so when a patient needs something, there seemed to be NO urgency to assist; the social workers at Patuxent are SO lazy that getting anything done for a patient is next to impossible until the social worker themselves are ready.
I met with Mark Asch at Patuxent - he was probably the only reason I would have considered this facility at all. Talk about helpful, thoughtful and genuine!! His customer service was fabulous. I called there earlier this week and found that he was no longer employed there! I inquired as to where he had gone to be told that he was not working somewhere else yet, but he was not going to be working for them any longer.
I also met with Kelly Williams at Arcola, another facility I considered for a particular client. I believe she told me that she had been at Arcola for 12-13 years. She was warm, bent over backward to give me a full tour - all the residents knew her by sight, she hugged many of them and asked them specific questions about their well-being. About a week or two ago, when my client's hospital discharge date was determined, I called one more time to speak with Kelly. Low and behold, she no longers works at Arcola. Again, when asked where she had gone, they said they could not give out that information, but she was no longer employed with Sava.
Don't get me started on Bethesda Health and Rehab, another Sava care center. I didn't even get calls returned from there. Not a good business move.
Overall, my comment should focus not on the individual centers, but on SAVA. It seems they lack upper level management to be able to make appropriate decisions
about who qualified and appropriate directors for their centers are. When it comes to senior services, it is very hard to find good, caring administrators. SAVA seems to do their very best to weed out to upper echelon of these folks, like Mark and Kelly, and bring in those crawling out of the mud. Good luck with that.
To any family or other professional serving seniors in Maryland, stay away, FAR, FAR AWAY from SAVA SeniorCare. They just do NOT have their act together.
If there i s anyway to can help it "DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONES ANY WHERE NEAR THIS PLACE". Staff is rude, crude, and totally unfriendly, no customer service what so ever. Patients are treated with no dignity. Place is not clean, they do not provide the necessary personal items, so if you find yourself or someone you love there be sure to take your personal items with you, and I'm not talking about a tooth brush and tooth paste. They seem not to know what water is used for other than drinking.
