  • Powerback Rehabilitation Lutherville Timonium, Maryland 21093

This is a poorly run rehab facility. The upper management do not address the numerous issues with their staff. Staff members sleep on their shift overnight, they are lazy, they sit at the desk and just talk, gossip about the patients. They do not follow directions, read information correctly. The social worker is a cold fish. they don't care! It's sad because people are at their mercy. Rude, could be so bothered to help, poor follow up. You name it it was happening. Don't be fooled by the pretty interior…..do not send anyone there you will regret it!!!

I was at the one in Voorhees. My room was very nice and the food was delicious. There was no communication between the therapists, nurses and therapists, or doctors and therapists. I kept having to retell the therapists about my hernia and other conditions every single session. There was swelling in my legs and feet that wasn't being resolved, and then I went into heart failute and the only reason it was found was because my mother, a retired nurse, insisted they have my chest X rayed. This happenwd late at night and i spent that night in heart failure at Powerback. The doctor came into my room at around 10 that morning and told me to not freak out, I was in heart failure.

Stay away from the one in Horsham. Very unprofessional, and severely understaffed. it began when the transport service was 3 hours late picking her up from the hospital, so she was just sitting there waiting. We were just going to leave and transport her ourselves. it's not unusual to have to wait over an hour for the nurse, after using the call button. Once I was locked in past visiting hours because we had to wait for so long. One of the people in the hallway gave me the code to the back door, so now I can get in and out when ever I want. How many other people have that code? So much for security. We were also warned by some of the staff to not leave any valuables behind, because they would disappear. If you're lucky enough to get a nurse, they're usually very flustered and in a hurry, and don't have time to answer basic questions. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

: STAY AWAY!!!!!! HORRIBLE! We chose this place based on the reviews. I don't know where these people stayed but it definitely was not Power Back! We checked my mother out after 3 days for rehab following a heart attack. First, no one greeted her or explained exactly what to expect. They basically left her in a room for 15 hours before she even saw a nurse. PT and OT came in 4 hours later. During this time no one explained to her why she could not have a shower. She became so upset I had to leave work to come calm her down. Second, the food is horrible. They are supposed to have a licensed nutritionist on staff, but they must have printed their degree on line. The food is neither heart healthy or diabetic friendly. As a result, her sugar soared to over 400. They did give her some insulin, but they gave her the wrong kind and amount and almost put into a diabetic coma. Fortunately, this was the only time she rang the nurses station and some one actually showed up immediately instead of waiting for 2 or more hours.Iif the LPN had not showed up we would have been planning a funeral instead arraigning for home health care. The grounds and common rooms are clean and beautiful, but housekeeping only came to room once in a 3 day period. My mother's bladder leaked a little, and she waited for over 6 hours for her bed to be changed. That was the only time her bed was changed and actually made. I understand that Power back is a for profit, managed health care business, but they really need to spend a little more money on more staffing and hospitality services. I will never recommend this place anyone!

We chose Powerback in Richardson for my 90 yr old mother. I went to I went in to visit at 11:15 on a Saturday morning. Upon entering her dark bedroom, I found her half out of the bed still in her nightgown. She was soaking wet , her nightgown, the bed, and she had a depend on. She couldn't get up to use the bathroom herself. When I went to get help the nurse told me she would call her aide. I was disgusted! She had not had breakfast, nor her therapy. Right away found a new place for her to be moved. I have alerted her Dr., her assisted residence, and anyone I come into contact with . Never go to this place! I

Horrible facility! My grandmother was transferred there after having surgery to get back on her feet and walking. They were supposed to do therapy twice a day. It was NEVER twice sometimes not even once and when they did do therapy it was for 10 minutes. She did not even begin therapy until she was there almost a week. Instead of working her legs they gave her some dumbbells so the therapist wouldn't have to do anything. Never changed her bedding unless she requested it, then they still wouldn't do it for a few days. Hardly showered her! One day the whole kitchen staff quit on the cook so the patients did not get breakfast until 2:30. She is home now and we received her bill which had no information on it at all. The bill is hand written and all it says is the total she owes and a phone number. Nothing else!. Now I have been calling for a week. They have no billing service, I have to leave a voicemail for the manager to speak about the bill or pay it. I have left 5 voicemails now with no return call!.

    Not a professional place!!!!!

I would not recommend this facility for anyone. My husband was moved to this facility from the hospital. The main purpose was to get him back on his feet after a hip break and another major surgery . He was confused and required anti rejection meds. They did not have one of his meds at first but was assured they would be getting them that day. The showers in the rooms areY non functional patients get showered twice a week etc

It was all a lie my husband was not showered. They never made him change his clothes never monitored his food intake or fluid intake. I complained and then told them he would be leaving the next day. He had to be read titled into the hospital he was dehydrated and his anti rejection meds were dangerously below the levels they needed to be. I could go on and on but I will stop here. Best advice find another facility.

My friend just left Powerback. She got good physical therapy, but that's about it. The food was so bad we had to take her meals. It took two weeks to get her medicine at the correct time and at the correct dosage. She was in there two weeks! It was a daily struggle for her to get her medication, especially her pain meds. Even after having two people intervene on her behalf the situation did not improve until two days before she left. The buzzer to summon a nurse was rarely answered. She had both knees replaced and could not do things for herself. It is cleaner than most Genesis facilities, but that's about it.

0 STARS!!!! My father is currently at the PowerBack in Philly. It is one of the worst places I've ever seen. His first day there he just layed in the bed. He was in pain from a Bed sore on his back. We asked for the nurse to look at it and put ointment and bandage on it. We asked THREE TIMES!!! Finally a nurse came in and gave us an attitude, like we were bothering her. Also, the place has a really bad smell. the room was dirty. There were used gloves thrown on the floor and on the window sill, a plastic lid from a beverage cup was on the floor and the commode needed to be cleaned. The furniture looks like they picked it out of the trash. When the administrator came in all smiling i asked her if someone could come in and clean the room. When I went in yesterday the gloves and lid had been picked up but they removed the bandage from his back and left it on his table tray, where they put his food!!!!. Also asked to get drops in his eyes for his Chronic Dry eye and to once again take care of the sore on his back. NO ONE SHOWED UP, AGAIN!!!!! Doing my best to get him OUT OF THERE! This place is the pits and a HEALTH HAZARD!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish I could give them a 1/2 star. The worst case manager with no feelings when dealing with your love ones. Emails not answered after 3 weeks whats to throw your love one out the door for the next patient. Missed medicines, never on time for therapy sections, easier and cheaper for them to do therapy in bed then to get you out.

I would give this facility a resounding "F". I went straight there from the hospital after knee replacement surgery. I thought this would make sense rather that go home. What a mistake. I was shown my room. This was the only part that went ok. Twice I was brought someone else's paperwork to sign. I was never given my meds on time. On my first night I was supposed to have my pain meds and an Ambien at 10:30PM. At 1AM I was still trying to get it along with the blanket I had asked for at 6PM The food selection was strange…very leaning toward Indian cuisine which I just didn't get. The one physical therapist refused to answer a question from a patient. Said she did not have time when all she was doing was sitting talking about herself. There seemed to be no communication between administration people and the medical staff. I was supposed to go home with prescriptions for my medicines on Saturday morning and guess what? There were none and of course there IS NO DOCTOR available on the weekends. The patient is NOT a priority at this center. I talked with other people at my Outpatient Therapy location and anyone that was at Powerback had similar if not a worse experience. To anyone out there that must go to a rehab center take this OFF your list. The state should investigate the negligence and shut down this place before someone gets seriously hurt.

My father has been in this facility for rehab for 11 days. I feel the PT, OT, and ST providers take their job seriously and do a good job however, the caregivers lead a lot to be desired. In the 11 days that he has been a resident there: he was not receiving the appropriate low salt diet (even though it was stated in his chart) for the first 9 days, we have found a pill under his bed on two different occasions (that were not prescribed to him), he was supposed to have an alarm on his bed so the staff was notified if he was out of bed. The alarm was placed on his bed and the connector was broken and wouldn't hold the cord that connects to the alarm pad. So it was taped, TAPED! The tape wouldn't hold therefore, the alarm wasn't functioning. This was finally fixed when brought to the administrator's attention day 10. Also, we were told 8 caregivers were in the rehab unit (4 RNs and 4 support staff), that's not the case, it is less. You really have to be the squeaky wheel here and fight for your loved one.

Clearly a second negative review from my experience - which caused me to NOT consider the facility. I visited the facility to ask on rehab information. Three things happened; a) The admissions people were too busy to give me a tour and asked that I leave a call back number b) when I didn't hear back from them 6 hours later - I visited again at which point the admissions counselor was asked to give me a tour. She was clearly upset that I visited again, without them calling me back and so requested a half-enganged tour to be given. After my 3.2 minute tour (I timed it), the young woman that gave me the tour suggested I should speak to the admissions office to discuss details. Guess what? The admissions woman was too busy and closed her office door. One has to laugh at these things sometime.

Never the less, I left a message for someone to call me back. Which they did the next day.. Message went like this; This is the admissions office at powerback, if you have any questions call us back. No name, no greetings, no anything.

So, I can only think that this sort of behavior translates down to the staff which in turn hurts the patients. It is interesting that there is another review on this board that supports my reasoning.

My Mom spent 20 days at Lorien for Rehab in February 2011. I feel that this

facility is a 'far cry' from other Rehab centers (know this - been their DONE that!)

over the last 10-15 years! Their P.T. and O.T. staffs are some of the best that I

    have seen (in 'practice')!

ALSO! The rooms are cleaner and more well cared for than most!!

For Me ----- it IS one of the Best in Balto. Co.!!!

Don't even consider this facility!!!! Here are just a few examples of the negative things we experienced at Brightwood:

A therapist who gave up on getting my Mom better and told us to go home and get her house ready for her to live in a wheelchair.

Technicians who told her to urinate in her diaper and they would clean her up later.

Medicine delivered late more often then it was on time.

The attending doctor casually mentioning that my Mom was going to be discharged without discussing the details with her or our family. My Mom was not ready to go home, but because she was not progressing at a pace acceptable to Medicare she was going to be released. The facility did not give us enough notice to prepare for her next step. And as I said the attending doctor irresponsibly mentioned her discharge in conversation acting like it was a happy occassion, but we were totally caught off guard and unprepared.

Upon discharge, the attending doctor did not order rails for the for the hospital bed that was being delivered to the assisted living facility she was moving to. Two nights after arriving my Mom fell out of bed and ended up at the emergency room.

What an awful experience. The state should close this facility down!
