We went in last night (we all work during the day and my mom had dialysis after work) to be with my great grandma as she was dying, and the staff did nothing to make us or my great grandma comfortable. No one was in there checking on her or moistening her mouth. They never moved her to her own room, so that she could have family with her as she passed. Instead, they sent us away saying we were disrespectful of the other residents because we brought her young grandchildren with us to see her and to say goodbye. My nephew is 18 months old. He was actually pretty quiet, he made a few loud sounds but, really? We can't even bring in the kids to see their grandma as she dies? I am disappointed with how the staff treated us and my grandma. We asked if she could be moved to the chapel, so we could stay with her for a while longer, hoping she would have her family with her as she passed away. They refused. Absolutely ridiculous. They obviously care more for themselves than patients or the families of the patients. My grandma had to die on her own instead of with her family, because you can bet none of the staff sat with her. Disrespectful? That would be the definition of the staff there at the nursing home that night, along with lacking compassion.
