My rating is a 2 star only because they give my mother room and board. They don't do much more. There is no vegetarian menu. My mom is diabetic and they have not been monitoring her glucose levels but they are good at calling us after the fact that her glucose is over 600 etc. I've seem them take heart rate and blood pressure but never blood sugar levels. She had back surgery more than 2 months ago and all they do is put her on resistance bike to build up legs because she has a history of falling. But never any core work (just a back brace). Braces only work up to a point but then you have to strengthen the area or the brace will work against you because it will make the area weaker. That's true whether it is an ankle, knee or back brace etc. She has a broblem of leaning forward when she sits because her erector spinae and erectous abdominis is weak. There are floor exercises that they can do that doesn't require her lower region to bend.

Furthermore, I massaged two different knots out of her back and legs. The body builds up lactic acid after workout and there's 2 basic ways to release it: stretching and massage. She's not getting any of that. Her hands are always cold because her circulation is bad. The [natural] way to increase that is through movement and diet which is why I fed her watermelon, massaged her and did floor exercises when I was there which is when she improved the most. I'm a personal trainer. I live out of town. Her glucose levels went off the charts and her health regressed when I left. The staff there tend to be more reactive rather than preventive. That needs to stop. I'm not confident that they are doing all they can.

The quality of communication in executing prescribed care is unacceptable for a health care facility. The lack of cross check between medical staff and patient primary care physician is unacceptable. Patients should improve not decline due to continuous miscommunication in patient health care plan. 3 week care turned into 8+weeks!

A while back this nursing home had the worst possible reputation, and the stigma from the activities that caused that reputation has unfortunately stuck with it today. When my grandfather needed to be placed in a nursing home I said what many locals would say: "Anywhere but county." We took him to Pleasantview, lets just say that place went downhill fast and isn't doing anything about it. We then took him to Pavilion where we got better care than Pleasantview, but Pavilion suffered the same problem: incompetent staff, clueless management, and crazy overhead expenses that make the quality of care terrible (ask yourself if all of their expansions are really making the facility better for the patients, and ask them how many patients each CNA or RN has under their care - be prepared to be shocked). We eventually took him to the county nursing home, and it was a night and day difference. They have turned themselves around completely. We had an issue with a nurse there, nothing major, just an attitude problem. We told the management, and they took care of it, then and there, and made sure that that nurse did not care for my grandfather. They took care of him in ways that the other facilities refused to, something as simple as getting him in a wheelchair was a request repeatedly denied by other facilities because he was "too heavy" (250 pounds at most). While my grandfather eventually died there, I feel completely confident in saying that they did everything they could to make his last few months as comfortable as possible. Had I to do it all over again, I would have taken my grandfather to county at the beginning.

This nursing home has made improvements over the past few years that are outstanding. My aunt received positive motivation and excellent care to regain her health at this nursing home after an injury last year. Another friend successfully rehabilitated from here to home in a short time due to their good therapy department. She had broken her shoulder in a fall at home and is back home doing fine.

All of the nursing homes in my area are excellent. This one is worth checking out. It is on beautiful grounds in the country out side of Ottawa, but still minutes away from a top rated hospital.

I sincerely acknowledge the tax payers throughout our country who choose to keep providing important county nursing homes to the public. People who count on state public aid/medicaid when they out live their savings would have less options. Many private nursing homes must ask people to move else where when Medicare no longer covers. They have to limit the number Medicaid people they reasonably can serve due to the unfortunate fact that medicaid reimbursement can be months behind. I think things will get better in this regard.

This is a very good home, lots of great visitors, where friends often, and staff is very competent and down to earth. Thank You.
