The staff is very helpful and treats the residents like they are family. The owner goes above and beyond to help the residents and their family. The residents are always fed and clean. They always have something going on for the residents to do and families are always welcome no matter what time of day or night. The staff communicates with family to keep you informed as to what is going on. Every staff member speaks and offers to help when you need something. Food is what you would normally eat at home and if resident doesn't want what they have cooked the staff keeps trying different things until they find something that the resident will eat. Great place and Great staff. I would recommend here for anyone. Children are always welcome to visit and the residents love it. Several people have brought their family members pets to visit and all the residents love this. All the residents and their family members and staff and their family members seem like one huge family. You get a feeling of love from everyone there. You can tell the staff cares about one another and the residents and their families and vice versa. Great place to be!!!!!!!

Our first clue that the facility was not up to par was upon arrival. There is a door with an awning and ramp, but there is no sign indicating it is an entrance and there are no signs directing people to the administrative office. I never figured out if this was the main entrance, but you can access the facility from this door. Once you walk in the smell of feces and urine is staggering. The cats wandering inside the facility are friendly, but the large pack of cats roaming around outside seemed feral. The staff had piles of cat food laying out directly on the counters which doesn't seem very sanitary. The patients smoke outside and there is no receptacle for them to throw away their cigarette butts, so there were large numbers of cigarette butts on the ground outside my father-in-law's window. The response time on my father-in-law pushing the nurse page button was around twenty minutes. There was a dirty latex glove on the floor in the middle of his room. A lady around 75 or 80 came wandered in to "clean" for about twenty minutes, and the dirty glove was still in the middle of the room when she finished. In all fairness I wasn't sure if she was a patient or staff member. My wife and I both had to shower and change clothes afterward visiting to get rid of the smell. We made other arrangements for his care after the first day.

Overall, we have been happy with the Winder Helath Care and Rehab. The care that the Nursing staff and the CNA's is outstanding. The cleaning staff keeps the place clean. The food there is terrible. The garbage that is feed to the residents is horrible. They are underfeed, and it looks like mush. Families are having to bring food in for the residents in order for them not to starve. They need a new kitchen manager and cook. Eggs and bacon everyday. Beef patties every other day. No fresh fruit served at meals, and no fresh vegetables. Also the facility needs to be updated. The families are paying a lot of money to have their loved ones there. Update the building make it more home like and not an institution.

Horrible facility! I am a CNA in training and went to this facility for a few days and the moment you walk, the smell of urine slaps you in the face. All of the residents' wheelchairs are lined up against the wall all day long, the residents literally just sit there and stare at each other all day long. It was so depressing. The staff is very rude, they yell in the residents' face and pull them up by their pants and arms. Every single resident has atleat 10 bruises on their body.. I wonder how they got those? My fellow classmates and I felt horrible watching the residents wheel themselves to the cafeteria so we offered to take them and they were so surprised and kept thanking us! I watched a CNA put a resident on the toilet and left her there alone for half an hour! No wonder the facility smells like feces, after they clean the resident behind, they throw the rags full of feces on the floor! Oh and don't count on them checking the resident's call lights. It was extremely sad and depressing, I am upset that I am done with my internship because I would've still wanted to go there to help these residents. A simple conversation with them makes their whole day.

Please avoid this facility, it will be one of your biggest regrets if you allow a family member to stay for even one day there. They will not be taken care of and will suffer emotional abuse due to a lazy, non-caring staff. I recently completed a three day internship at Winder Rehab and I cannot describe how disturbed I was at the treatment that these elderly angels are receiving. I saw developed bed sores, neglected call lights, rude answering of call lights, and a general blind eye to any requests the patients were trying to express. Most of the patients have given up expressing themselves, and seriously just sit all day. I did not see one patient taken for a walk (for exercise) outside, or even down the hall. Under-staffing may have been an issue, but I saw more than one CNA sitting, watching TV, and making personal phone calls while I knew for a fact that there were residents who were in pain or whose call lights were on. The smell of urine, feces, and body odor is overwhelming. There was no fresh air, only old air conditioner units with dust inside them. All the windows are locked shut and air fresheners are sprayed into the air every so often. Every single bathroom reeked like it'd never been cleaned. I could go on, but I feel that it's important that to be honest when situations like the one at Winder Rehab are discovered. Thank you for taking the time to read this and having the courage to face an uncomfortable reality.
