When you go to Scepter for the first time, look at the faces of the residents. I did. You will see a calm peace on every face that comes from love and care given to them by the staff. When a resident speaks to a staff member, that person looks the resident in the eye and gives them their complete attention. The resident has a feeling of self-worth, knowing they are respected and what they are saying is important.

My Dad was at Scepter 4 years. He lived on the "Wings of Hope" with my Mother. The morning he died, many of the staff came in very early, hours before their shift, just to be there and with him and to show their respect for him. We were in awe of such kindness.

The executive staff knows exactly what is going on with each patient, down to the medications or changes thereof. They feel responsible for everything and make sure the caregivers have everything they need and are doing their jobs as expected. They have an open door policy for family members and residents. The nurses and CNAs are constantly on the move, NOT sitting, but checking on each person. A precise daily record is kept on each resident.

The activities and social events exceed all expectations. They are geared for each patient's ability. They know what each person enjoys, and stay with them to help.

My Mother has dementia. She has been in the " Wings of Hope" (a separate secured environment) at Scepter going on 5 years. They have a nurse and CNAs exclusively for them. When we visit, she is in the Community Room in the Wing of Hope. They have clothed tables to eat and for activities. It is always decorated for the next holiday. One whole side of the room is windows, making is a cheerful environment. She always tells me she is happy. On one of her better days, she asked me to make a list of each caregiver's name so she could thank them personally. She said: "I know I'm mostly in a "fog", but I also know these people are SO good to me."

Scepter is an answer to prayer. Scepter is not fancy or showy. The resident's rooms are quite large with large windows. It is extremely clean and smells good. The food is really exceptional, carefully prepared for each person's special needs. My Mother is a chocking hazard, so her food is chopped very small. By far it is the BEST place you can let your loved one feel they are HOME.

The salesman was amazing and while I knew he was doing a job and selling the place, I was severely disappointed in the facility AFTER my mom was placed here. My mom has required supplemental oxygen 24/7 for the last 4 years. Fifteen minutes after arriving at the facility, she needed to go to the bathroom and couldn't get there because of the short length of the oxygen tubing. So, we called for a nurse. She came in and said "just disconnect it and go to the bathroom"…My mom ended up being wheeled out of there alive, but I should have paid attention to the first red flag. The second day she was there, she was taken to physical therapy, where she was having significant breathing troubles, was dizzy, short of breath, etc. After FIVE minutes, it was realized that the therapist didn't turn her oxygen back on after disconnecting her from the portable oxygen. Incidents like this happened repeatedly. I could go on and on…but, I think you get the point….do not be fooled by an amazing sales staff (who I'm sure have absolutely no idea what happens on the unit floor). Thankfully my mom was coherent while she was there, as she was given incorrect dosages of her meds on numerous occasions, which she refused because she knew what she was supposed to take. I am extremely grateful that they were able to keep my mom alive…but I would definitely NOT recommend this place to anyone and would NOT let my mom return there.

I would rate this very unskilled nursing facility a negative 0 if possible.

Please consider any other facility before you even think about placing your loved one here.

This was the only place available at the time our family member was discharged from the hospital and we were pressured to go ahead with the placement even though my first impression was negative.

The nurses are very rude, and uncompassionate.

This is the most unprofessional nursing home every! The nursing staff is rude and uncaring. The facility is dirty and smells very bad. The patients are left wet, they don't attend to any of their needs. If you do not visit your loved ones constantly. This facility does not offer telephones in the rooms, and patients are sharing one mobile phone between them; spreading germs to each other. The patients rooms are dirty, and patients with mobility disabilities are not moved on a daily basis and left in the same positions for weeks. Patients with bed sores are not tended to and the sore become worst from lake of care. If you care for your loved ones please do not send them to this place….ever!!!

I was a patient here after an injury. Not only are the staff abusive, but they take joy in refusing to help you when you have a problem. The facility is under staffed during the day at night it is much worse imagine 20 patients to every 1 CNA. Go to Fox 5 news for a story on this place where a CNA beat a patient on Christmas Day of 2015. The cna's put 2-3 diapers at a time on patients so they don't have to change them as often. I personally caught my nurse stealing my pain medicine, and she didn't even get suspended they just said that there was not enough evidence, even though I gave them the pill she gave me, come to find out they threw it away and then denied that I ever gave it to them. If you hate your family members and want them to die from neglect put them here. If you love them find a way to take care of them at home. This is the worst, .let abusive, neglectful place. 90% of the people that work there are terrible human beings that should be put in jail for hate crimes against the elderly.

If at all possible do not send your loved ones to this facility. The nurses are hateful and uncaring. Just as an example my mother refused medication and they held her down and gave her the shot anyway. I have spoken to a few nice people that work here while I was trying to get my mother out because she hated it. The admin cares about nothing going on except when they will receive payment.

    Horrible! Horrible! Horrible!

Short staff (but say they're not). Too many double shifts worked by employees. Too many PRN workers. Personally witnessed midnight staff sleeping while call lights went unanswered. Bedridden residents do NOT get bathed regularly and their hair is not washed. Supplies are not routinely provided to residents even though their monthly rate includes these items. Staff is allowed to carry and use their personal cell phones anywhere and anytime. Residents that are mobile, walking or wheelchair, are not allowed free range within facility common areas. Staff constantly directs them to their room. Residents are rarely offered a drink of water by the staff. The water pictures are filled with ice and placed in their room, but no assistance is given with drinking. The water pictures are too large and therefore too heavy for most residents to handle (dehydration and UTI's). Makes me wonder if this facility is given an operating budget and if they come in under budget somebody gets a big bonus?? The shower chair is too old and the cut out area for their bottoms is too hard and sharp for their fragile skin.

One more important thing, you can't count on the state investigators/surveyors to be of assistance when you file a complaint on behalf of your loved one because no matter how much documentation or evidence you have (even broken bones and horrific bruising). Amazing fact is the facility never seems to know how it happened. They report it as "unexplained", or the resident did it to themselves. It's a C.Y.A. operation. The state always decides based on documentation provided by the facility; employee interviews and nurses notes. Doesn't matter what you tell them you witnessed. You have to visit your loved one everyday and at different times. Never let them know what time you're coming. That's the only way you can help protect and ensure their well-being.

FYI: Do NOT put your loved one in Abbeville Health & Rehab located in Abbeville GA. I took my Mom out on 12-22-14 due to neglect and by 12-26-14 I had her in ER and to this day 1-15-15 she had to have surgery for an abcessed ovary, which had to be removed, which had rubbed a hole in her colon, which in turn lead to a permanent colostamy bag, she had infection so bad in her body she became septic due to a neglected UTI, and feces running amuck in her body, after the surgery she was on life support for several days, then in ICU a couple more days, then to a room for a couple more days, then back to ICU for 1 day not being able to breath due to pneumonia setting in now, now back to a regular room, the sad part to this is their now telling us that Snellville is where were going now? I am scared to death to put her here !!! especially after reading the reviews! There has got to be something we as families we can do, who's ready ??????

My relative has been there for almost a year. The rooms are clean but small. The dining room experience really bad.The bus is dirty doesn't look like its ever been cleaned.Noise levels are deafening especially near the nurses station and at night.Plus side the techs, activity person and rehab techs work very hard. My hats off to them for trying to make it a home . If you could fix the rest I'd change my vote.

I want to cry every time I go to the REHAB center to see my loved one. I have only encountered 3 CNA's that care. The rest take their time when you push the "call" button & then when one came in she actually leaned against the wall & said "Yea?" Like we were "bothering" her! I wanted to punch her in the face. I am praying my loved one can survive this awful place! The floor in the the room is dirty with what looks like drops of urine. I go up to the nurses desk to report it or ask a question & they either totally ignore me or when they finally do look up they act like I am bothering them! I can't report this to the administrator because I am afraid they will take it out on my loved one BUT I am going to report it to MEDICARE! The uncaring attitude of most of these people makes me sick! I feel sooooo bad for these helpless elderly patients! I'm hoping more "BAD" reviews will make for a change! God help these patients!

  • Life Care Center of Gwinnett Lawrenceville, Georgia 30044

.Awful ! Do not send anyone you care about here. Had wonderful previous experience at lifecare of lawrenceville so we figured this would be as good for rehab. It was just the opposite. Admissions staff and PT were only pleasant people. Clothes weren't washed, nurses and OT were rude, doctor lied about giving medication…The list goes on and on. Also overheard another patient telling the head nurse that their roommate had sat in their soiled clothes calling for a nurse for 25 minutes and the head nurse told the lady "no one could help right now". Sad, horrible, awful. Do not send your loved one here.

Horrible when it comes to their nursing staff. Tried to get them to get chest stays when my brother was gurgling and having trouble breathing. They argued saying he was fine when he finally got to the hospital he had double pneumonia! They are under staffed and under educated!!!

unless you are willing to go daily at different times to check on your love one this is not the place to put that family member there is ALOT of people that do that just put the love one there and does not go visit or rarely go SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!! that love one more than likely took care of you an NOW IT IS YOUR TURN TO TAKE CARE OF THEM AN MAKE SURE THEY ARE BEING TAKEN CARE OF MAYBE THAT IS WHY THE STAFF IS LIKE THEY ARE THEY SEE YOU DONT'S CARE SO WHY SHOULD THEY?????? when you have your "regulars" (the ones that work all week with the resident) CNA's and Nurses and it is their weekend to work everything is ok however the weekends your "regulars" are not working it is AWFUL staff is totally LOST I feel sorry for the resident of nursing home ; lunch is at 12 noon however food does not come out till 12:30 the staff takes the trays up at 1pm, the resident that need help feeding well they may eat or may not it depends if the staff likes them or not. most residents are in wheelchairs and need to be taken to restroom which to my understanding it is suppose to be every 2 -3 hours this does not happened I have been there. my rating is for the staff that is not the "regulars" because I do go see my love one and other people love ones!!!

Heritage Healthcare of Lilburn has to be the most unsanitary nursing home facility I have ever been in. It is a terrible representation of UHS Pruitt. They do not give any of their employees any of the benefits that the other UHS Pruitt facilities receive. This leads to low moral among the workers and a corrupt working environment. CNA's and nurses constantly cut corners, and the health of the residents is a secondary concern. Health and safety regulations that are commonplace in other facilities do not exist here. Simple things such as baths, nutrition, and mouth care are often overlooked. There is little accountability to how residents are being treated by the staff an no one seems to care much about the work they are doing. Heritage Healthcare is well know in the nursing home community as being a "bad gig" or a stepping stone to working somewhere better in the field. How Heritage Healthcare is still in business is beyond me.

I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS IN THIS FACILITY RIGHT NOW AND I SO WISH HIS STATE OUT OF FAMILY WOULD MOVE HIM. THIS PLACE IS NASTY!!! HIS SHEETS ARE ALWAYS NASTY AND FULL OF BLOOD STAINS AND ITS OBVIOUS THEY DON'T ENCOURAGE HYGIENE FOR THE PATIENTS B/C MY FRIEND'S FACE, EARS, NAILS AND TEETH ARE ALWAYS DIRTY. YUCK!!! HE'S THERE FOR REHAB AND KEEPS GETTING SICK WITH INFECTION IN HIS BROKEN ANKLE WHICH SPREADS TO HIS BLOOD STREAM. I KEEP TELLING HIS FAMILY ITS BECAUSE OF POOR HYGIENE SEEING THAT THE INFECTIONS CLEAR UP ASAP WHEN HE'S SENT TO THE HOSPITAL FOR THEM BUT I JUST DON'T THINK THEY CARE OR WANT TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH FINDING HIM A NEW REHAB. I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST PUTTING A LOVE ONE IN THIS FACILITY.

We had to put our 86 year old father in nursing home in January of this year and after looking at numerous ones in the area, we arranged for him to go to Heritage Lilburn.

Regarding the staff: the staff Social Worker assigned to us was great, very pro-active if we needed anything and always willing to answer any questions and provide reassurance to my mom (she cared for dad at home for the previous 4 years). The aides are overworked with assignments that, while they kept my dad clean and bathed regularly, they often forgot to give him his teeth during the day that he would eat breakfast/lunch without them. But they did keep him clean, he was never left to sit in a solid diaper. The RNs, day shift weren't very friendly but the afternoon were great and mom appreciated the time they spent in updating her.

    some of the drawbacks:

appearance both inside and out needs work-looks like an old school from the outside and a lot of the ceiling tiles inside are stained. The equipment is old/dated. My dad's bed was broke for several days (won't go up/down) that they had to move him to another room until it was fixed. Food isn't very appealing to look at, I never tasted it but based on looks alone, it left much to be desired. While they would wash/return his shirts, we had to had to buy new socks as those items weren't return even with his name written all over them.

Anyone who has had to make the decision to put a beloved family member into a home knows that they are not going to get the level of care as they did at home, but Heritage staff did their best and always treated my father, mom and family with the upmost of respect and dignity. Most of the nursing staff had been there for several years and that speaks volumes that they don't have monthly turn over. Its a tough decision to make and Heritage isn't perfect but for the time that they cared for my dad, they did right by him and us. My father passed away March 1st.

Our family was very disappointed with the care provided from the staff at this facility. Upon our first visit to the facility we found the staff to be very unfriendly. We stood at the nurse / staffs desk to ask for assistance and we were ignored. You were made to feel that they were to busy to be attentive to family members request for directions / assistance. The simi-private room was tiny with only one metal chair for visitors and barely enough room to walk around the sides of the bed. In addition my mother in law had no night stand to place her personal belongings. Based on observation from our family members the hospital was clean but that is the only positive observation. One day when we would consider this facility to be staffed with un-caring-caregivers "too busy" at least the ones we encountered over the two weeks of our mother in laws stay.

  • Parkside Post Acute and Rehabilitation Snellville, Georgia 30078

As sad as it is. Many of the reviews are FACTUAL! The staff will make you think that they are doing what's best for your loved one, but they treat those people like trash. The CNA's should be working in an animal clinic, they could care less about how they treat them. When you ask a question, you get the "whatever" look. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAQUE!!!

  • Cambridge Post Acute Care Center Snellville, Georgia 30078

My mother is there as a full time resident. She has numerous issues and the staff is patient and kind to her. There are issues there, of course, but nothing that I have not seen in other homes. There is nothing majorly wrong or bad. We decided to put our mother here based on a recommendation by another family friend whose mother is there and a good experience visiting with the staff while we were still deciding. It is not the most aesthetically appealing home, but it is clean, doesn't smell, and caring to the patients.

  • Parkside Post Acute and Rehabilitation Snellville, Georgia 30078

If you're not happy with the care your relative's are getting in this facility, contact Omsbudsman….they will make sure things are corrected or they have the capability of closing the place down. I strongly suggest you follow through with any concerns you might have and make your presence know to the staff….call often but the best thing to do is make unscheduled appearances in these places….they will think twice about putting their guard down with your relative is they don't know when you're coming…don't go the same time everytime.

  • Pruitthealth - Lilburn Lilburn, Georgia 30047

Toured the facility recently to see about placing a parent there. I was interested primarily in the short-term care area and found it to be very clean. There was no "nursing home smell" what so ever in this area. The staff I met was very pleasant and the residents all seemed well cared for. I did not see anyone sitting in a hall-way calling for help as I have seen in other facilities. Older building, but is clean and in good condition.

  • Life Care Center of Gwinnett Lawrenceville, Georgia 30044

I could not think of a nursing home that could be worse than this place. I have great concerns about the competence of the staff. My mother and father have had nothing but issues since they were admitted over a year ago. Every time they are ill, the staff seems to be unaware of it. We have to beg to have them admitted to the Emergency Room. It has not been a time that we have prompted them to send our parents to the ER that it was not warranted.

Do not be fooled by the recent remodeling of this center. The staff has slow response times, do not seem medically astute enough to notice someone who is critically ill nor are they responsive to the families needs. For these and other reasons, I implore you to locate alternate care for you families.
