Review of Plaza Health and Rehab

If I can give 0 stars, I would. I base my rating on the first (and hopefully, the last) time I visited GHCC. First of all, the sign on the street that says Gainesville Health Care Center should give enough warning NOT to go to this nursing home. It looks like it's an abandoned sign from the 80s. Weathered, discolored, and barely noticeable from the street. Second, staff was very informal and casual. Immediately stepping out the elevator, I noticed a young woman taking a resident's blood pressure. She was wearing jeans, cowboy boots, and a t-shirt. I would not have known she was a CNA, if I had not seen her tiny badge that said she was one because of how she was dressed. Third, she and other staff held conversations with each other from a distance, thereby talking loudly up and down the hallways. No shame in yelling across residents. I understand it is not a hospital, but there should not be a reason why staff should look or act questionable whether they work there or not. I also witnessed VERY POOR transfer techniques used on residents. For example, an older gentleman resident with a movement disorder needed to go to bed and so his aide came by to help him. I saw the greatest fear in his eyes when the CNA hauled him up by his armpits and swung him on the bed. Fourth, staff was unprofessional with residents' families. I witnessed a CNA VERY RUDELY addressing an older woman who was tending to her husband. This particular CNA threatened she was going to "quit in 2 minutes" and that she "ain't pickin another person up off the floor." From this point on, it was CLEAR that a lot (IF NOT, most) of staff who work at GHCC do not offer the quality "care" at this center, but just do it to make money. VERY VERY SAD but this is what I witnessed. I left GHCC with such a heavy heart for all the residents and their families.

I understand the consequences of leaving residents no other place to go, but I hope this place gets shut down (or makes IMMEDIATE DRASTIC changes). Residents and their families deserve more respect than this. I feel for them.
