My father transferred from hospital with a Leukemia diagnosis on top of several other serious health issues. He chose Del Rey primarily for its close proximity to the neighborhood he's lived in for 45 years. My first impression was "worn around the edges". Some of the rooms look freshly painted and decorated, but my Dad's room was stark, clean but not asthetically pleasing. The center courtyard needs some landscaping help! However, my impression changed as I watched the staff in action, for my father as well as interacting with other patients. There are some EXCELLENT people working here as nurses and aides. His RNs were GREAT - daytime (Lavinia) and nighttime (Tammy). They were knowledgable & professional, but also genuinely personable. He had a night aide (Michael) who really went the extra mile. I can't even list all the nurses and aides that were so kind and supportive. They were accommodating to my father's and my requests and very patient with my being there. Because I was there for hours, at many different times of day, I was able to observe how hard they worked to keep up responding to patient requests and needs with continual patience, while maintaining the paperwork and schedule tasks of so many. In the end, I was very glad my father chose there.
