I stayed there four days after abdominal surgery to regain enough strength to handle the many stairs to and in my home. I found it clean (no smells, frequent mopping of floors), but the food was terrible. I am a vegetarian, bad the kitchen acted as if they had never heard of such a thing. One dinner entree was one whole wheat hamburger bun with a 3/8" slab of peanut butter. That was it. And their staff only got my medications to me correctly and on time twice out of 20+ times. I have a complicated schedule of medications that I must take at 5 different times each day. If I didn't know that by heart and look at the pills they gave me and question them, I would have gotten the wrong meds almost every time. Their physical and occupational therapists were good and I had myself wheeled down to their room twice a day, once for a session and once just to work out on the equipment. I'm glad I did. That's what enabled me to leave after only four days. I couldn't handle the "food" any more. The CNAs were very nice, in general, and a few were real gems, kind and caring. Some of the RNs had an attitude problem, but others were nice and competent. I survived and got strong enough to get home pretty quickly, but that was my doing more than theirs.

I am not satisfied with the care given to my grandmother. Every time I visit which is about two and three days consecutively, she's full of urine and bowel or she is not being turned as often as she should. Every time you turn around CNAs are complaining about how the center doesn't have basic necessities such as lotion soap and spray for cleaning residents. In addition diapers are always coming up missing. Plus, when we volunteer to change her the CNAs do not help or have nasty attitudes about changing my grandmother.

I have been in OHCW center this past couple of weeks to visit my mother.Their service over all is good.But their DSD was not proffesional when she speak with the residents as well as the staffs.It should be correcetd soon.

the area is what it is.. the whole town is this way.. but the care at this place is awesome. My father has been here for 3 years.. it has been good, but has now turnin n to some awesomeness.. since 2012.. staff are movin and on it.. get to it. workin like they mean it.. happy my father his in his last days. This place was OK a while ago, but they are cutting on staff and spending. It is getting worse day by day. The administrators tell newcomers that they have one Nurse's Assistant (CNA) per 6 patients during the day, but that is not true. In actuality each CNA has 8-12 patients to take care of, which is impossible, so patients and long term residents are suffering. And the CNA's are overworked. They are skipping on showers and cleaning. The food quality has deteriorated greatly. The food tastes terrible, so most patients are not getting adequate nutrition. Kitchen is almost late every day in serving lunch. Some patients do not even get their diapers checked or changed as they should ever two hours. The place is stuffy and smells bad. The owners are pocketing a lot of money and not spending what they should to take care of people's loved ones. If you have a patient here, please check on them every day and maybe find a better place to move them to.

My mom stays here and I am happy to say, for the money it is best I have seen in the area. With 4 levels of care you can't beat it. She originally moved into Independant living and made friends quickly. Staff is attentive and friendly. When she fell one night, help came quickly when called from her pendant. She had a short stay in the Skilled Nursing, where the nurses gave very good care to her during her stay. I recently saw a sign that the Skilled Nursing had been surveyed by the State and was given 4 Stars. After a year we moved her to Assisted Living. We worried she would feel left out away from her friends. Staff and friends made sure she still could join in on the Independant activities and still eat in the Main Dining area.

I read in a review on another site that Piedmont Gardens was the worse place to leave your family member. Far from it. Experienced staff and nurses, residents that get involved with the community and activities. Great food and a beautiful place. Just a short walk to Piedmont Ave where you have just about everything you need.

Earlier this year a new memory care unit was built and I took my mom up to visit one of her friends who moved in there. This place looks like an upscale hotel with it's award winning design, where family members can cook up meals giving the atmosphere of home to their loved ones. They are kept stimulated with many activities through out the day. No, this is not a prison. If my mom was here I would feel assured she was safe from wandering away and in danger of being lost.

Because I didn't give it a 5 stars is because of the economy, there is still need for some improvements and repairs on these older buildings. More maintenance staff to help keep up with everything.

But overall I think for having 4 levels of fantastic living and care it is the best place for my mom to live out the rest of her years and she totally agrees.

I have been in four rehabilitation facilities in the Oakland area over the years, and can say without a doubt this place should be put out of business! From the poor care, terrible food, incompetent staff and handicap-unfriendly facilities, this palce is hell-on-earth! I wouldn't put a dog in there let alone a person! The food was inedible, and the head dietician agreed, I was repeatedly given the wrong medications which were corrected only when I insisted and had to argue that they were wrong. They dropped me at least once a week (I was there for two months recoverying from surgery), and the staff would always say "It's alright" after mishandling me - never an apology! The management would tell me that I was "unique" in that I was very alert and cognizent. I guess they just want older and demented patients so they can "dupe" them. I cannot stress enough that this is NOT a place to put anyone you care about.
