  • La Sierra Care Center Merced, California 95340

La Sierra is a physically filthy facility. Dirt is visible pretty much everywhere. Also, they will lose clothing, but no one is allowed to look for any missing items on weekends. The food, while quite nicely prepared, is always delivered at barely room temperature, including the soup. It is not their fault, but their proximity to the railroad tracks makes it impossible to get any real rest, along with the all night long jovial chit chat of staff members and cleaning equipment outside the rooms. The bathroom my friend shared with 5 other people had a plumbing leak that was not fixed, and dirty washclothes in the sink so she could not wash her hands without being exposed to someone else's stuff. This is one seriously HOT, very uncomfortable building. They have small fans on the nightstands, but they only move the hot air. I brought in a themostat on a 94 degree day and it was 87 in the room, with the tiny fan on. Finally, my friend was turned on her side with a sheet shoved behind her to keep her in place and the call button placed out of reach. She called out over and over, and no one came, so the poor thing had a bowel movement on herself. We moved her out that day. The RN's are not even remotely close to kind or competent. They may be overworked, but it does not explain their inability to find and dispense medications as prescribed. or their noticeable disdain for their patients. My friend had an as needed pain medication, she asked for it just twice in a week; she was told she didn't need it. Upon discharge, half of my friend's medications, including her pain medication, could not be located. The person doing the dischard said they never got it, but the nurse who delivered it has proof they did receive it. It's been 3 weeks and they still have not found them.
