Review of Magnolia Post Acute Care

3 Star User Review

I just finished a 35 day stay at this facility. I am an RN who was also a pt adding a different perspective to a review of this facility. First I understood as a RN that the CNA, who does the main pt care in this facility, also has 10 to 15 (if they were short of staff) other pt's to care for each shift. This doesn't leave a lot of time per pt. However I was clean, safe, and properly medicated during my stay. My skin was checked regularly, I received daily meals, and exercise as I was there for PT, OT, and strengthening. This is done at bargain bottom prices, poorly stretched barely adequate supplies

with constant shortages of linen, adult briefs, and other supplies. This facility tries to do the best job for its pt's with a very skimpy budget. It is an insurance company's dream come true. Family's need to understand that this facility is the way of this class of nursing rehab, residential, sub acute facilitys. If you want more basic services it will cost you, and this class of nursing facility is not offering that, and you can't recreate the ambience of La Jolla in El Cajon. I didn't mind my stay except for one hige mistake they continue to endorse. They have the worst food of any facility that I have ever been at or stayed in for treatment. I cannot tell you how horrible it was and this is the first time I gained weight on a diet because they don't know what they are doing. Everything is canned including fish I had one day! I am not a picky eater but their food is horrible horrible!!! The staff is very nice, but their communication needs to improve. Fluid restrictions were not followed by some, but would be followed by others. Due to HIPPA no notes were ever left at head of bed for all to know that pt is to get no fluids due to choking and some people would attempt to give water to these pt's without checking orders. I think it still would be better to post a note where everyone can see the words FLUID RESTRICTION see nursing prior to giving liquids, than choke the pt. All in all facility gets 3 out of five stars for cleanliness, pt care and the hard work by dedicated CNA's to get their work completed despite interference from some family members who think they are in a hotel, and their loved one is neglected because someone is not hovering and babying them. If that's what you expect for your family member dig deeper and pay extra for another facility. If you want your family member cared for by dedicated staff who have another 10 to 15 pt's,

will keep them dry and clean, and help them to heal on a Wal Mart budget try this place. Please continue to hound them on their terrible terrible food if you do send your family member there. Maybe this company's CEO needs to give up his bonuses to give his staff a raise ( haven't had a raise in almost 4 years), and get better food on a higher budget to get some fresh food and get rid of all that canned stuff. Due to being a pt here I would send my own family member here because the staff is so caring and dedicated to their pt's health. I would probably supply their food however, that's how bad it is at this facility.
