Our mother was admitted to The Rehabilitation Center of Bakersfield 5 years ago this month. We naturally trusted and depended on the doctor and nurses to provide the best care. She was put on a psychotropic drug without our consent. It made her very sleepy during the day when she had therapy. The entire nursing staff was complicit in failing to tell us, even though she would ask, “What are you giving me?” almost nightly for 2 months. WHY!?!
In addition, her blood-thinner was not monitored for over a month with disastrous results. Her rehab came to an abrupt halt, and she went home on Hospice. The Kern County Ombudsman, the California Department of Public Health, and CANHR (California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform) gave us invaluable advice and assistance.
