  • Desert Cove Nursing Center Chandler, Arizona 85224

BEWARE! Desert Cove was the center picked for my grandfather after his hip replacement surgery. After reading their already low review rating I was a little uneasy placing him there. At first I was greeted by the admissions director Eric, where I discussed my concerns and explained my situation (having two little ones, which they don't allow, and living an hour away, with conflicting schedules; I explained the need of communication). I thought everything would be uphill from there on out, but I was very wrong indeed. On Saturday, 3 days from my grandfather's arrival, I visited him and noticed his wallet was gone. I reported it immediately to the front staff and the nursing staff after searching the entire room. I was told I would get a call Monday morning from Suzette the director of social services, but no call ever came. I called on Wednesday and spoke to Amy the director of case management, who I had already left a message for prior and never heard back, I asked her what the status of the investigation was and what I can do to prepare for my grandfather's next step. She provided some good information, and I was grateful, I was hoping that the wallet was just thrown in with the laundry and she told me that she would leave a packet for me to pick up that evening at my visit. When I showed up the packet wasn't there and instead I found a police report. A police report was filed without my knowledge and with my grandfather who was then only 50% cognitive (he didn't even give them the right address…). On Friday I checked my grandfather’s bank account to see if anyone tried to use the cards and noticed there were two ATM inquiries, confirming indeed the wallet was stolen. No longer could I allow the benefit of a doubt and I called the executive director Michael Oliver. After leaving a strongly worded voicemail regarding my concerns and desire to speak with him I got a call from Suzette at 4:28 pm on a Friday with a voicemail saying Michael handed this over to her and she gave a list of things starting with how she was off on Monday. The fact that the director didn't think my concerns were important enough to even warrant a personal call back is shocking to me, seeing as I left a voicemail that there was now a confirmed theft on his premises and I had a list of other issues with his staff. Again I hoped that would be the worst of this whole situation and tried to focus instead on getting my grandfather to his discharge date a week away, by this point. This last Saturday I went to visit him and asked him how the care was, in my mind I thought "well, if the care is good then I can deal with this headache for a few more days.." and this is the experience he shared with me; he said on Friday he had to go to the bathroom (he can't get up and down by himself) so he pushed his call button, a man popped his head in, so he told him he had to use the restroom, the man said he would go get someone but no one ever came, he pushed the call button again, and another person popped their head in, and again they said they'd get someone, and again no one came, he did this TWO more times for a total of FOUR times and no one EVER came…so my grandfather was forced to poop on himself and sit in it until someone came to change him. That is the most inhumane thing I have ever heard and it makes me sick thinking that someone I love had to endure that experience in a time that he is supposed to be "in recovery". In his short stay he has become a victim not only of identity theft, but of neglect as well. Please do not send your loved ones here, and I hope that someone out there reads this and has the power to do something to stop this from happening again. I share my grandfather’s experience in hope that it serves as a warning to any and all who are considering Desert Cove.

On my mom's second night she had very bad back pain. She usually has cortisone injections every 8 weeks to control the pain. We asked for some over-the-counter pain medication from the nurse but she's not allowed to dispense any without prior doctor approval. There are no doctors around. She paged the on call doctor 4 times between 8PM and 1AM but he never called back. They just let my mom lie in pain with nothing to help her. An aid told me some of the on call docs call right back and others just blow you off.

The air conditioning in mom's rooms is broken and it is sweltering hot. No matter what we set the thermostat on the temperature just kept rising. It is after 5:00pm so no maintenance men were available to fix it.

My mom is begging for some aspirin at least for her pain but to no avail.

Also when my mom told them she had indigestion and wanted some Tums they told her no because she had taken one four hours earlier.

When mom asked to have her diaper changed they said no because they had changed it not too long ago.

Don't be fooled by the nice clean rooms. This is not a good place to leave an elderly person.

My mother was in this facility for a few days. She was supposed to be there for at least a month. It was so bad that she requested to be allowed to go home instead of staying there where she, supposedly, could be cared for. Facility was dirty. Bathroom sink was stopped up, and bathroom floor was flooded. Food was horrendous, and often cold when served. Nursing staff was very inattentive, seemed not to care at all for the welfare of their charges. Medications not delivered on schedule.

Horrible care! Looks are deceiving. I chose Sante for rehab services for my mom after she broke her hip. The first night there my mom was in excruciating pain. Although she was on pain meds it was not enough. In fact in the hospital she was given morphine every 2 hours for breakthrough pain. I contacted the head r.n. Stefanie and asked her to contact the md to get something additional for my mom. When I checked 20 long minutes later I found out Stefanie left for the evening. I asked for another nurse to call the md. R.n. Sofie came to my moms room and told me my mom doesn't need pain medication, as my 70 yr old mother was laying clenching the bed sheets. Sofie had no compassion or empathy. I told her my mom was getting morphine as well in the hospital, because at times her pain is so severe, but she kept telling me no. After I told her of my profession she called the md. Over 2 hours later she finally got additional pain medication.

The nurses also ignored the fact that my mom hadn't had a bowel movement in 10 days, even though I mentioned it daily to them. I called my physician who said my mom could have fecal impaction and perforate her bowels if something isn't done ASAP. I threatened to have my mom removed and call 911 to get her to an e.r. address her issue. At this point the lpn called the md. The nurses hadn't followed their own bowel protocol and done something as simple as give her Milk of Magnesia. The constipation had caused her continual nausea and no appetite for 10 days. The nurses did not care she hadn't eaten in 10 days and never offered her small snacks or even crackers.

I stayed every night for 12 nights and witnessed first hand lack of basic medical care. Medications were given up to 2 hours behind schedule and not as instructed(with food, etc).

I had requested for a physician to see my mom and one never came. I requested to speak with an r.n. and she never came. Terrible terrible medical care!!

I was transferred there and had the worst experience some of the CNA help was rude they lost my clothes the first time I sent them out for cleaning with no reimbursement it was only $40.00…. I had a bag blow up at aproxx 1:00 am one night the Cna didn't know how to change it i asked to see the RN she said as she was leaving the room "good luck with that" so i laid soiled in bed until they came in at 5 AM to check on me.. The first room i was in when i got there the sink was full of bugs the Cna just washed them down the drain but the just came back. the second room was dirty in the bathroom in the corners and had to put a towel over the drain as the SEWER gases were coming up thru the floor. I was in 309 which is near the nurses station and they would be real loud at night all night long with no concern for the patients . The RNs and Doctor were good and concerned with my well being. The physical therapists were all great and helped me out alot to regain movement. IN CLOSING I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE NEVER!!!!

  • Archstone Care Center Chandler, Arizona 85224

I am having a very well experience with Archstone! My aunt suffered from a stroke in 2011 and has been in the facility for about a year or so. The staff is very helpful and they offer quality care. The nurses there are always on their A-game and I always receive above and beyond customer service. I recommend this place to anyone who is considering placing their loved one in this facility. This place has got my 5 star rating.

I had to find a rehabilitation facility quickly upon my dad’s release from the hospital after surgery and was given a list of facilities in my area. When I read the reviews, I almost didn’t contact Desert Cove, but I’m glad I did. When I visited the facility, I was impressed from the start and have found only loving, dedicated staff at every level. It is super clean and the environment is very comfortable. My dad, who can be very difficult, transitioned easily and is improving daily. I’m glad I did my homework and chose Desert Cove. I highly recommend them.

  • Desert Cove Nursing Center Chandler, Arizona 85224

My mother has unfortunately been at this facility and has had a horrendous experience. Sample problems- frequent medication errors which cause extreme pain and harm, repeated neglect, and making those who speak up or ask questions into a criminal. This place is toxic. Keep your loved ones away.

  • Desert Cove Nursing Center Chandler, Arizona 85224

My brother received maginal to poor nursing care. In the seven hours I visited him he was never turned to prevent bed sores, was never offered or given ice chips to allow him to swallow, never had any treatment for infected ulsers on his toes. Denied his patients rights when he asked to see and get copies of his power of attorney and advanced directives. The stalff cohersed him when he told them he wanted to be discharged. Overall. this place gets a minus 5 rating

  • Desert Cove Nursing Center Chandler, Arizona 85224

Desert Cove has great staff in all areas. They all appear to treat residents with upmost respect and dignity despite what they may get in return from the resident. In our family's experience there was only one individual who did not portray this as the rest of the staff. Experienced minor issue with food allergies not being followed, but issue was corrected upon notification. Highly recommend Desert Cove and kudos to staff for being so kind with crotchety old people (especially those who don't know better due to their condition)!

  • Brookdale North Chandler Chandler, Arizona 85224

Primary concerns with this care center were the CNA/Aides/Doctor staff and care. This facility must have a culture that supports their personnel covering issues rather than speaking the truth and correcting the issue. They also have a poor method of dealing with dementia patients and ensuring patients with allergies are not given the food for which they are allergic. The facility did appear clean and had activities that the residents seemed to enjoy.

My mom received rehab services at Desert Cove for a knee replacement.

The therapists were amazing. Having therapy sessions twice a day, six days a week made her progress go fast. The staff is really friendly and accomodating. I ate some meals with her at lunchtime and found them pretty good too. The place is clean; no bad smells or anything. It was a good experience. If we ever need services again; we would definitely choose Desert Cove. We felt as a family we were supported too. The case manager guided us all the way through to the day she was discharged.

  • Archstone Care Center Chandler, Arizona 85224

Personally the staff could be a lot nicer to visitors. My grandmother is a resident not by choice, but the staff is horrible and as for cleanliness there is not a good comment. I do not appreciate how the residents of Archstone Care Center are treated, this place should really work on being a better nursing home. I am against any type of nursing home, but this place really needs to be improved.
