    1. Isolated: No actual harm with potential for more than minimal harm that is not immediate jeopardy
      • Develop and implement policies for 1) screening and training employees; and the 2) prevention, identification, investigation, and reporting of any abuse, neglect, mistreatment and misappropriation of property. (Corrected 2017-11-03)
      • Ensure each resident receives an accurate assessment by a qualified health professional. (Corrected 2017-11-03)
      • Ensure that each resident who enters the nursing home without a catheter is not given a catheter, unless medically necessary, and that incontinent patients receive proper services to prevent urinary tract infections and restore normal bladder functions. (Corrected 2017-11-03)

To be part of the Medicare and Medicaid programs, nursing homes have to meet certain requirements set by Congress. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has entered into an agreement with state governments to do health inspections and fire safety inspections of these nursing homes and investigate complaints about nursing home care.
